MULTIPLE ONENESS - OBOIST, MATT SULLIVAN, EARTHWORK PAINTER, KEN CRO-KEN
 *** Cro-Ken sets paints in motion to recreate the pushing/pulling forces that shape and mold all things.
As a result, one sees not only a realistic view of space but more importantly, how it moves.
Made in above and below freezing, high and low altitude, Ken learns about paint and nature simultaneously.
THE NEW YORK TIME - Music Review, By VIVIEN SCHWEITZER
Published: February 22, 2011 MUSIC OF NOW, Symphony Space
"The most unusual work I encountered was "Multiple Oneness," an intriguing performance-art piece by the oboist Matt Sullivan and the painter Ken Cro-Ken.
While Mr. Sullivan played a melancholy lament over recorded sounds, Mr. Cro-Ken poured liquids onto a canvas projected onto a video screen.
The colorful liquids flowed through the painting's raised surfaces like yellow lava, swirling in strange tandem with the oboe's melancholy tunes."

GaiaTECH I - TIME RELEASED PERFORMANCE COMPILATION, 1999- 2005, with electro/acoustic trio FirstAVEnue and MATT SULLIVAN,
this compilation from performances with ecosystem painter Ken Cro-Ken and special guest musical performances by MATT SULLIVAN, oboist;
TODD REYNOLDS, violin and FirstAVenune, electro/acoustic trio. PAINT, MUSIC and NATURE COLLIDE when Ken Cro-Ken's Speed Element
paints are set in motion and a reactive improvisation ensues!  By mixing paints and catalysts together, Ken Cro-Ken sets his "Speed Element"
paints into motion and mimic the push-pull forces found in nature that shape and mold all things.  As a result, I paint microscopic as well as
satellite views of the earth and places scattered throughout the universe. These are abstracts waiting to be called realistic when technology "catches up".

Although Cro-Ken goes to nature to make paintings in all temperatures and altitudes, he also realizes that nature is all around us and even in a studio, a hot, cold, wet or dry day will affect a paint experiment. This video is a compilation of performances at such places as the C.B.G.B.'s gallery back in Spring of 2004. Cro-Ken is working on GaiaTECH II for up coming performances; including an EARTH DAY 2010 performance with musician/composer Matt Sullivan. ABOUT KEN CRO-KEN, earthwork painter:
When one thinks of earthwork art, the first thing that comes to mind would be: soil, rocks, branches or other tangible earth materials but the greater part of my attention is with the invisible / unseen forces that shape and mold all things. My paintings are made in above and below freezing, high and low altitude and I must become more sensitive to things outside myself. I take my rightful place and follow nature's lead; and learn to strike a balance between my inner and outer self. Things are revealed to me through paint experiments that cannot be discovered by any other means. This is a real and unique relationship. And, though realism and abstraction have a place with this art but greater focus is placed on creating a direct relationship with the actual and the strength this triad offers. In other words, this is a physical investigation of this planet using paint as my translator and mediator with our world. The result is that I learn about paint and our planet simultaneously.
